DADA SAHEB PHALKE AWARD : A NATIONAL FILM AWARD Dhundiraj Govind Phalke or Dada Saheb Phalke born in 1870 and died in 1944.He was a director, producer, and screenwriter. He made 95 films and 26 short films during his whole career. He began his career as a photographer in Godhra located in Gujarat and later he worked at Archeological Survey of India as a draftsman. The Indian film industry kicked off with a film made in the year 1913 named Raja Harishchandra and it was made by Dada Saheb Phalke. He became the first Indian to make a film that is why he is known as the father of Indian cinema and in his honor, the Indian government instituted the Dada Saheb Phalke award. The Minister of Information and broadcasting announced that this year’s Dada Saheb Phalke Award will be given to south superstar Rajinikanth .
