BJP was the single largest party in those days; they won the election and Vajpayee sworn as the 10th prime minister. But BJP was not able to prove their majority among the members of Lok sabha hence Vajpayee had to resign as they did not get enough support to form the government.
Second-term(1998-1999):- when the two united front government fell between 1996 and 1998 the Lok sabha was collapsed and the general election was held again. In 1998, in the general elections, BJP was the largest party, several parties came with BJP to form NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC ALLIANCE (NDA) and then again Vajpayee was sworn as the Prime Minister. The government lasted for 13 months.

Famous incidents in his third term
The highjack and risky decision:- In  December 1999  an Indian airline’s flight from Kathmandu to Delhi was hijacked and they took it to Tiban, and they demanded to free terrorists like Masood Azhar from prison .the bajpayee government took a brave and risky decision, they sent Jaswant singh, the minister of external affairs of the current government and exchanged them for the passengers.
