THE HISTORY OF IPL: THE STORY TILL 2020
Indian
Premier League (IPL) is held recently. This is one of the most difficult yet
most loved leagues all over the world. It is no wonder that the brand value of
IPL is Rs. 475 billion. This league gives players a chance to showcase their
talent. It is a professional t- twenty League organized in India every year.
Many players from all over the world and India compete against each other and
play for 8 teams who represent eight cities/states of India. These teams are
named Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals (DC),
Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Banglore
(RCB), Kings XI Punjab(KXIP) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
The
first-ever IPL match was played on 18th April 2008. In the first season, 59 matches
were played. Brendon McCullum scored the first-ever IPL century. Rajasthan
Royals became the winner in the captaincy of legendary spinner Shane Warne.
Shaun Marsh with 616 runs won the orange cap (an honor for scoring most runs in
a season) and Sohail Tanvir won the first purple cap (an honor for taking most
wickets in a season) with twenty-two wickets in eleven matches. The t- twenty
league ownership auction took place on 24th January 2008 and the player auction
on 20th February 2008. M.S. Dhoni became the most expensive player and bought
in 1.5 million (value in US$) and Andrew Straus was the most expensive foreign
player.
CONTROVERSIES IN IPL
As IPL
became famous among the people, controversies also entered IPL. Some famous
controversies are Spot Fixing, Shahrukh
Khan's fight in Wankhede Stadium, Wayne Parnell and Rahul Sharma seen at a
party in 2012, slap gate incident.
In 2013 it
was revealed that in some matches spot-fixing was done Delhi police
arrested 3 players the players were
Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan were jailed for spot-fixing and
after some time while investigation Gurunath Meiyappan a CSK owner was arrested
by Mumbai police.
In 2012 IPL
after a match at Wankhede Stadium there was a mix-up between a security guard and
Shah Rukh Khan and it is said that he abused the security guard and after that,
he was banned for 5 years from stepping in the Wankhede Stadium by the Mumbai
Cricket Association (MCA)
Rahul Sharma
and Wayne Parnll who played for Pune Warriors India (participated in IPL from
2011-13) were seen at a party consuming drugs in 2012held in Mumbai and they
were kept in custody by Mumbai police.
MOST EXPENSIVE PLAYER IN IPL HISTORY
The most
expensive player in IPL history is Yuvraj Singh. He was bought by Royal Challengers
Bangalore in 2014 and his performance was average that's why he was released by
RCB in the 2015 auction and bought by Delhi Daredevils for 16 crores.

IPL 2020
Because of COVID-19, this year IPL could not
take place in March. It started on 19th September and ended on 10th November in
the United Arab emirates. Chennai did not qualified for the playoffs and Delhi
Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore made it in the
quarter-finals. Out of all these teams, Delhi Capitals made it to the finals
for the first time in the history of 13 years of IPL but was not able to win
it. Mumbai Indians became winner for the 5th time.
