Dhundiraj Govind Phalke or Dada Saheb Phalke born in 1870 and
died in 1944.He was a director, producer, and screenwriter. He made 95 films
and 26 short films during his whole career. He began his career as a
photographer in Godhra located in Gujarat and later he worked at Archeological
Survey of India as a draftsman. The Indian film industry kicked off with a film
made in the year 1913 named Raja Harishchandra and it was made by Dada Saheb
Phalke. He became the first Indian to make a film that is why he is known as
the father of Indian cinema and in his honor, the Indian government instituted
the Dada Saheb Phalke award.
The Minister of Information and
broadcasting announced that this year’s Dada Saheb Phalke Award will be given to
south superstar Rajinikanth. The most recent winner of the award is Amitabh Bachchan. This award is given for excellence in cinema. This
is award is dedicated to Dada Saheb Phalke, after his death this award is being
given since 1969. This award comes under the category of the National Film
Award.
The first Dada Saheb Phalke award was given to Devika Rani who was an actress and known as the first lady
of Indian cinema.51 people have received this award till date. It is awarded by
the Directorate of Film Festivals.
This year the Dada Saheb Phalke award has been given to south superstar Rajnikant. His original name is Shivaji Rao Gaekwad and he was born on 12 December 1950 in a Marathi family. He works in the Tamil film industry and he is one of the highest-earning actors in Asia. He has also contributed to the film industry as a producer and screenwriter. He has also worked in many Hindi films. In addition to the Dada Saheb Phalke award, he has won awards like Padma Bhushan in 2000 and Padma Vibhushan in 2016.
