PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION: FROM THE NOMINATION TO THE OATH
Elections to elect the 16th president of India are announced. Elections are to be held on 18th July, counting of votes will be done on 21st July, and the new head of the state will take oath on 25th July. But how is the first person of the country elected?What criteria should a person fulfill to be eligible for contesting the presidential election?
There are some criteria that a person should fulfill to be eligible for contesting the presidential election. Those criteria are:-
1. The person must be a citizen of India.
2. He must have completed his 35 years of age.
3. He must be eligible to be elected as a member of the Lok Sabha
4. He should not hold any office of profit under the Indian govt., or state govt. or the local authority/ government. It means that the person should not have a source of income under the central government/ state government/ local authority

How is a person nominated?
For the nomination of a candidate, the following procedure is followed:-
1. The candidate should have 50 electors as proposers and 50 as seconders
( As the name suggests Proposers are the who propose the candidate’s name for the nomination and seconders are the people who support the nomination.)
2. The candidate has to deposit Rs. 15000 (that is about 200 USD.) in the Reserve Bank of India. It is done because, if in case the candidate fails to secure one-sixth of the total votes the money will be liable.

THE ELECTION PROCESS
1. The voting is done through a secret ballot.
2. the voting is done by the Members of Parliament, the MLAs of the states, and the Union Territories that are Delhi (National Capital Region), Jammu & Kashmir, and Puducherry.
3. To calculate the number of votes, the average number of votes that are the vote value is calculated. The accurate formula for calculating the vote value is as follows:-
Vote value of an MLA = TOTAL POPULATION OF THE STATE or UT/ TOTAL NUMBERS OF ELECTED MEMBERS OF THE STATE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY x1000.

4. The formula for calculating the vote value of a Member of Parliament is as follows:-
Vote value of an MP = TOTAL VOTE VALUE OF ALL STATE MLAs/ TOTAL ELECTED MPs

THE OATH CEREMONY
The Chief Justice of India administers the oath to the newly elected president, in his absence, the senior judge of the Supreme Court administers the oath to the president.
